Curriculum and Facilities

The VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) form the basis of the school’s curriculum program. VELS guides curriculum planning and reporting on student achievements, and is the curriculum foundation for Victorian schools.

Results on statewide student achievement tests confirm that Ashburton provides highly successful literacy and numeracy programs and effective classroom teaching matched to the learning needs of the students.

High quality classroom teaching provides flexible and adaptable approaches and constructive strategies to enable students to reach their full potential. Thinking skills, open ended questioning and inquiry learning, use of Bloom's Taxonomy, Multiple Intelligences and appreciation of differing Learning Styles provide students with the skills and knowledge to enable them to take responsibility for their own learning.

With the aim of continuous improvement Ashburton Primary provides Professional Learning for staff on an ongoing basis to improve teaching strategies and understanding of the latest educational initiatives.
